Troop 188 Home Page

For the second year Troop 188 hosted the Wild West Relay Race Exchange 10 located at station 10the intersection of Red Feather Lakes Road and County Road 68C - the turnoff to Ben Delatour Scout Ranch. An ideal location for our scout troop.

To host an exchange Troop 188 volunteers performed the following:

Exchange 10

  • Announced racers within 1/4 mile of the exchange to ensure a smooth runner transition.
  • Recorded exchange times for teams members arriving and leaving the station.
  • Maintained safety by directing vehicles parking and runners. At times the parking lot overflowed which ment Judi was pretty busy directing traffic.
  • Ensured a fun transition by providing items like music, site theme and food. Our theme focused on scouting since this is what we do.
  • Troop 188 Crew

crew We arrived around 9am to setup anticipating the first vans would arrive around 11:30am and the first runners arrive around noon. We built a structure to hold the United States Flag and Troop 188 Flag using poles and lashings. We also setup the music, snow cones and canopies for the runners. We were prepared for sun and rain both of which occurred during the course of the day.

In attendance representing Troop 188 were 9 scouts and 7 adults. Pictures related to the scouts can be found here.

    The Runners

We attempted to get pictures of runners entering and leaving Exchange 10 transition zone. The pictures are categoried by arrivals times to help runners find their pictures. If we missed you - sorry - since at times it got busy.

    Closing Thoughts

Tom was the inspiration behind Troop 188 hosting a WWR exchange site. Doug Salter assisted Tom in organizing this years event. Thanks to Tom and Doug for their leadership organizing the event.

The scouts from Troop 188 definitely had a good day. However we were tired when is was time to tear down. We finished around 7:30pm. Remember we left Linton Parking lot in Fort Collins at 8am.

Thanks to the runners who encouraged the scouts to continue with their scouting activities. We talked to a number of runners that had been scouts. We also talked to Eagle Scouts who encouraged T188 scouts to their continue scouting activities and achieve Eagle Scout rank. All the runners were gracious for what we had done at the exchange site.

With the heat we had lots of people getting snow cones flavored with Gatorage and/or Cytomax.

The event took place on Friday August 6th, 2010.
