Vedauwoo Climbing Campout

"Belay - On Belay; Climb - Climb On" - That's the phrase heard many times on our climbing campout to Vedauwoo, Wyoming on Saturday September 12th, 2009.

Early Saturday morning we reviewed climbing safety, equipment, knots and climbing discipline at the campground. Scouts practiced tying in, checking each other's setup and techniques while the more experienced climbers and leader setup the climbing areas at the Beehive. We then headed to the Beehive rock climbing area which is down a series of dirt roads. If you haven't been here before you would not find this place! The lead instructors setup 5 climbs in the morning (5.3 to 5.5 difficulty) and two harder climbs rated 5.7 to 5.8 difficulty.

We climbed until late afternoon. The weather was cool (40-50F), cloudy and the mild winds kept us chilled for most of the day. When we got back to the campground it started to rain/mist. Pretty soon we were engulfed in clouds.

For dinner we had great pulled chicken burritos prepared and cooked by Nathan. Fortunately, there was alot to eat since we all were starving by dinner time. Dessert was made by Reid - Dutch oven fruit crisp. Only one word to describe dinner - awesome!! Thanks to Nathan and Reid for cooking.

We met up with other scouts from two scout troops in the Fort Collins area. Six scouts and two adults from Troop 188 attended.
